⎯ Quem é Lucas Brito?

A Life Dedicated to Music

Lucas Brito is a composer, arranger, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist, originally from Nova Friburgo, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro. He began his musical studies at the age of 8 and, since then, has built a career marked by diverse experiences in bands, orchestras, jazz groups, Brazilian popular music, and performances on stages throughout Brazil.

Throughout his journey, he had the opportunity to learn from great masters of Brazilian music and to accompany renowned names such as Zélia Duncan, Hamilton de Holanda, Hermeto Pascoal, Dudu Nobre, Xande de Pilares, Diogo Nogueira, Alcione, Nelson Sargento, Dona Ivone Lara, Conjunto Época de Ouro, Grupo Semente, Arlindo Cruz, Roberta Sá, Sandra de Sá, Martinho da Vila, Emicida, Criolo, Arthur Verocai, Daniel, Fagner, Fafá de Belém, 3030, Neguinho da Beija-Flor, among many others.

In 2017, he performed as a soloist at Duc des Lombards, one of the most prestigious jazz clubs in Europe, at the invitation of the renowned French saxophonist Baptiste Herbin. He also participated in performances in countries such as Portugal (Clube do Choro), Spain, Germany, and Switzerland.

Lucas has extensive experience as a studio musician, having worked on various recordings with artists from MPB, as well as contributing to soundtracks for soap operas and series on TV Globo, such as Babilônia (2013), Pega Pega (2017), Tempo de Amar (2017), Orgulho e Paixão (2018), and Ilha de Ferro (2019). In Tempo de Amar, he was also invited to portray the character Pixinguinha, under the direction of Jayme Monjardim.

He holds a degree in Music from FSG, a degree in History from UNESA, and a postgraduate degree in Arrangement and Music Teaching Methodology. He worked for seven years as a flutist and piccolo player in the Marine Corps Symphonic Band, where he held the position of principal flutist. During this time, he performed in the main concert halls of the country, such as Sala São Paulo, Sala Minas Gerais, Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, Teatro da Paz (Belém), and Teatro Amazonas.

Despite his extensive work on stage and in studios, Lucas Brito has chosen to focus more on composition and orchestration, particularly in the areas of chamber music, symphonic music, and soundtracks for films, games, and advertising.

“Minha grande paixão é escrever música para grandes grupos orquestrais”

Through his art, Lucas advocates for an integrative view of music, in which the popular and the scholarly do not oppose each other, but rather complement one another. His artistic mission is to reclaim the grandeur and musical sophistication of the great masters of the past:

“Why do we hardly see people composing like Mozart, Beethoven, John Williams, or Pixinguinha these days? Do we think that this is unattainable? We cannot think this way; it is necessary to demystify this idea. Art should not regress. My mission is to recover music that is, at the same time, beautiful and complex. That is what I wish to teach my students.”
